Inventions Inquiry

My most enjoyable part was- When we got the finishing product because I was so excited see it done!
The hardest part was- Trying to unravel the floss in front of the dragons because it wouldn't budge.
If I was to do this again I would- Put a seal over the floss so it would keep clean.
I have learned how to- Work out GST costing, and how to create the Flosser Brush!
The most scariest moment- When the Floss fell off 5 mins before dragons den, but then my mum came over and saved the day!
The most boring part- I didn't have a most boring part it was all fun because nothing really bad went wrong!
How did you feel when talking to the Dragons- Excited but scared because I didn't want to muck up.

The most breathtaking moment- When 2 dragons said they were in and they would give us the money because I was so happy!

This is a photo of me and my partner holding the flosser brush

Wheels Day

Wheels Day

Click here to see my PMI about Wheels day.

For wheels day we did laps around the school to help raise money for a little girl in a wheel chair called Maddy. I f she gets lots of money she can go to the USA and get an operation on her legs that could help her walk.

Pangram

Today we learned about Pangrams. We had a class competition. A pangram is a sentence that uses all the letters of the alphabet.

The duck ate the bag of chips and had an xray on his eye then he saw a monster sitting on the Queen's chair zooming away very jeolously with a kangaroo.

Corban Art Center

Andrew Hall

Andrew Hall
Full name: Andrew Hall.
Lives: Andrew Hall lives in West Auckland.
Artist: Andrew Hall is a self taught assembladge artist (he made that name up for himself)
Materials: Andrew Hall gets rubbish but uses it as materials.
Work: Andrew Halls art is very popular he has won medals and has just gone global.

I think...

If I was to go again to the Corban Art Center again I would not of made a clock I would of made a owl with CD eyes, because the clock took a long time to do.
The most challenging part was trying to fit all the sticks in the center because they were all different shapes and sizes.
I enjoyed, meeting Andrew Hall and looking at some of the amazing art work.
This is my creation it is a clock!

Cyber safety!

Police visit
Constable Wansink (our school police) came in to tell us about cyber safety and how to protect yourself on the internet. She told us the cyber safety rules;

  • Never give person details
Name
Date of birth
Address
Home phone
Your after school or before school activities
  • Never give anybody pictures of yourself or family.
Nothing is deleted across the internet.
If you think you have deleted something off your page it isn't gone on someone else's devise.

  • Always be careful of what you post and who you 'friend' or 'follow'.
It's not about having the most 'friends' or 'followers' if you don't know who is looking at your instagram or facebook acount, something could go seriously wrong.

Thrill seekers

Reading

Who is Evel Knievel?

Evel Knievel was an amazing trill seeker famous for his crazy tricks that he did on the motorcycle. His real name was Robet Craige.
1938- 2008 he was 69 when he died he died of IPF which is a serious lung disease that leaves no survivors.

What is a thrill seeker?

A thrill seeker is someone who loves being scared for the fun of it Evel Knievel was an example of a trill seeker he was crazy!

Have you ever done a thrill seeking stunt before?

I have never done a trill seeking stunt and I never will I'm such a scaredy cat!!!

Why are thrill seeking stunts so dangerous?

Because a lot of thrill seeking stunts are not thought out and they push the boundaries of common sense.

Do you think that if someone wasn't dangerous it could be thrill seeking?

I think that for Evel Knievel thrill seeking was jumping 17 cars, but for me trill seeking would be going down the fare fall at rainbows end, that's not dangerous it can't hurt you but it would get the adrenalin going and my heart pumping so I think yes.

I enjoyed all the code breakers and the 2 fruit burst that my team got because we won!
Hampton court maze picture;
Explain Harris theory; Harris theory was the right hand theory he said "hold onto the right side and never let go" this theory does work I have tried it.

Wearable arts

Monday
Today I started the skirt with Sophie and we made a bow.
The most challenging part was when I was hot gluing the newspaper to the ribbon .
We found out that it would look better if we cut one of the sleeves off so that's what we did.
At the moment our outfit is not reflecting our element which is fire, because it doesn't have any fiery colors or decorations to reflect our element.
Here is a picture of Sophie and I planing are dress;

Tuesday
Today we have finished our skirt and have hot glued it on to our blue dress (which is the base for our newspaper dress) and we are thinking of ways to reflect are element.
We had the most difficulty trying to hot glue the red and yellow streamers on to the skirt because we had to do it outside and all the streamers were blowing away.
We found out that we were going to have to make the top separately to the skirt so I had to go to Sophie's house after school and we got to work.
Our outfit is now reflecting our element because of the streamers.
Here is a picture of Sophie and I folding newspaper for our skirt;

Wednesday
Today we finished our newspaper dress. Sophie and I both are very exited about the finished product of the dress that we have created.
Overall I fell very proud of what Soph and I accomplished.
The biggest success was seeing the final outfit we loved it!
My most enjoyable part was having fun with Sophie and designing an awesome dress!
The hardest part of the whole three days was when we were outside trying to stick all the things on for the dress and everything was blowing away!
If I was to do this again I would change my element to water, because I think that it would of been pretty cool if we had made a water flowing sort of dress.
I have learnt that plastic and hot glue don't like each other.
Here is 2 pics;

The finishing product;

Writing

In writing this term we have been learning about reports.

We have been doing reports about Bees, Torbay school, and when the power went out we had to use books to write report and I did lady bugs. There was also lots more.
Reports are about facts they are not about opinions. The thing I have found the most difficult about reports is that you can't share any opinions e.g. Torbay School is a safe and fantastic learning environment for all kids. That is my opinion but the person next to me might think that Torbay is exciting but unsafe, so my opinion is not necessarily everyone ales opinion. What I also found difficult was that we had to include 4-5 paragraphs in each report witch is a lot of information for just 1 story.
Over all report writing has been fun and interesting, but it is not my favourite type of writing. I like narratives the best.

Maths

In maths I want to learn my 12x, because I now know my 1x,2x,3x,4x,5x,6x,7x,8x,9x,10 and 11x

Here is some practise,
12x1 12*
12x2 24*
12x3 36*
12x4 48*
12x5 60*
12x6 72*
12x7 84*
12x8 96*
12x9 10 8*
12x10 12 0*
12x11 13 2*
12x12 14 4*
The dash means it's right. They are all right I checked.
I see a pattern in the second digit number as it goes 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, 2, 4, 6, and then in the third digit number it carries on 8, 0, 2, 4, its like the 2x's tables. It also has a pattern on the first digit number going 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and in the triple digit numbers the first 2 continue 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.
were I have highlighted blue I am confused because it goes 1, 2, 3, 4, and it just skips 5 and goes on like 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.

Independent tasks.

Independent tasks.

Over the last couple of weeks room 2 have been given an independent work grid to work with. This includes daily must do task and weekly must do tasks.
The idea of independent work grids are that we don't have to do spelling, maths, writing, reading and so on, in that particular order, we can do reading, maths, writing and than spelling. I think it is a good idea and fun because if you don't fell like doing reading in the first block you can do it in the last block!

Hundertwasser Art

This week we have been learning about Hundertwasser Art.
 Hundertwasser was a famous architect and artist, he designed many buildings and many pictures within his long life of 72 years, sadly he died in 2000 of a cruise ship in New Zealand.
He was a very unique artist and did not believe in straight lines, because he thought they looked unnatural in his work. He included environmental messages in lots of his art work, such as...
You are a creature of nature behave.
Don't cut down the forest.
Save the forest.
And many others.
We have started to create are own Hundertwasser work including environmental slogans.
Not being able to use straight lines is tricky, but I like Hundertwasser's art because it is different and special.
